WHY SHOULD YOU TUNE YOUR VEHICLE ?

Performance tuning your vehicle can bring a host of benefits that enhance your driving experience. Here are some key reasons to consider it:

  1. Increased Horsepower and Torque: Tuning the engine control unit (ECU) can optimize the air and fuel mixture, resulting in more power and better acceleration.

  2. Improved Throttle Response: Adjusting the ECU can make your car more responsive to your inputs, providing a more exhilarating driving experience.

  3. Enhanced Fuel Efficiency: Proper tuning can lead to better fuel economy by optimizing the fuel-air mixture and improving combustion.

  4. Extended Engine Longevity: Tuning can reduce unnecessary strain on the engine, leading to less wear and tear and potentially extending the lifespan of your vehicle.

  5. Customization and Personalization: Tuning allows you to tailor your vehicle's performance to match your driving style, whether you prefer a sportier feel or a more economical ride.

  6. Potential Resale Value: A well-tuned car can attract enthusiasts and potentially increase its resale value.

If you're considering performance tuning, it's essential to have it done by a professional to ensure safety and effectiveness.

DPF Delete

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a crucial component in the exhaust system of modern diesel vehicles, designed to remove soot from exhaust gases. Over time, the DPF becomes clogged with soot, which it filters very efficiently. To combat this, manufacturers have designed the DPF to self-clean when it reaches about 40% capacity. At this point, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) adjusts the fuel mapping to significantly increase the exhaust gas temperature, burning off the excess soot.

However, this self-cleaning process requires the vehicle to be driven long enough for the cleaning to occur. For many cars that are primarily used for short trips or city driving, the DPF never regenerates properly and becomes so blocked that the engine runs inefficiently.

Eventually, the DPF may become irreversibly clogged, necessitating an expensive replacement. Dealers might attempt software updates to protect the DPF, which can result in symptoms like hanging revs when changing gears, increased turbo lag, and flat spots at lower RPMs. They might also try to regenerate the DPF in their workshop, but this is often ineffective if the DPF is too far gone.

Common symptoms of a clogged DPF include a lack of power, an illuminated engine light, and high fuel consumption. The ECU detects the blockage and forces the engine into limp mode, drastically reducing power and making the car difficult to drive.

The simplest solution is to have an exhaust shop or mechanical workshop remove the clogged contents from the DPF, leaving only the housing and original pipework. Our role is to perform the necessary DPF delete software upgrade, which disables the DPF function and coding, ensuring your vehicle runs trouble-free and better than ever. DPF delete software upgrades are offered as a no-cost option as part of normal diesel tuning, only if required. Please contact us directly to discuss your DPF delete needs.

EGR Delete

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a process where a portion of exhaust gases is redirected back into the engine's intake to be re-combusted, reducing emissions. While this system works well in petrol engines, diesel engines often experience reduced efficiency compared to those without EGR. The issue worsens when the EGR valve becomes blocked or seized, leading to increased turbo lag, dulled engine response at low RPMs, and potentially causing the ECU to put the engine into limp mode.

The solution is to have a mechanical workshop install a blanking plate at the base of the EGR, preventing the 'dirty' exhaust gases from re-entering the intake manifold. Our role is to perform the necessary EGR delete software upgrade, which disables the EGR function, allowing the engine to run efficiently without needing to replace the EGR valve. We offer this as a no-cost option when we ECU chip tune a turbo diesel vehicle, only if required. Please contact us directly to discuss your EGR delete needs.

Diesel Tuning

Envirotech provides diesel tuning services for most turbocharged diesel engines, including cars, vans, motorhomes, utes, 4x4s, and trucks. Modern diesel engines are managed by a complex network of interconnected components and sensors that control injector duration, injection timing, turbo boost, common rail pressure, idling speed, and engine responsiveness. At the core of these systems is the ECU (engine control unit), which contains the software program (map) that dictates how the engine responds to inputs from the vehicle's sensors. We specialize in diesel tuning and ECU remapping services.

When manufacturers ship new vehicles, they typically load diesel ECUs with conservative maps to ensure their vehicles perform well in a broad range of climatic and terrain conditions. For example, manufacturers must ensure that their cars, utes, 4x4s, vans, motorhomes, and trucks work equally well on the fast New American motorways, the undulating terrain in the United Kingdom, the sub-tropical weather and mountainous roads in northern Thailand, the extreme temperatures across the Middle East, the icy winters in Ukraine, the rugged and arid off-road landscapes of Australia, and the alpine passes and gravel roads in backcountry New Zealand.

Manufacturers must also consider that some customers may not service their diesel vehicles regularly and that fuel quality can vary significantly in different regions. As a result, compromises are made to accommodate such a wide range of diesel tuning circumstances. This is why vehicle manufacturers need to restrict performance and impose limitations on a diesel engine's operational parameters. That's where we come in with our diesel performance upgrades.

4WD Diesel Tuning Services

By creating a new diesel tuning map and reprogramming your ECU for local conditions, we can unlock your engine’s full safe potential. This involves adjusting settings to access previously untapped reserves of power, torque management, engine response, and, in many cases, improved fuel economy. We provide diesel tuning services for most vehicles fitted with turbocharged diesel engines and common rail diesel injection.

We offer two unique maps:

  1. Power Tune: This diesel tuning option focuses on extracting significant gains in power, torque, and response. Often, we can also save fuel, assuming the driving style remains the same as before the tune. Typical power and torque gains are 25-30%, depending on the vehicle, with better response. Check out the power and torque gains that envirotech can typically achieve from your car, 4x4, ute, van, motorhome, or SUV.

  2. Towing Tune: If you frequently tow or carry heavy loads, this is the diesel tuning map for you. These tunes are designed to protect your engine in tough conditions. You can expect 20-25% more power and torque, which makes a significant difference on hills or when starting off with big loads and crossing intersections. for cars, vans, utes, 4x4s, and motorhomes.

Diesel Tuning NZ

Our ECU maps have been developed by Professionals. This enables us to consider the specifications of New Zealand vehicles, our relatively poor diesel quality, and typical load and towing duties in Aotearoa terrain to provide the best blend of performance improvements. More power, more torque, more response, and less fuel.

Our diesel tuning and remapping services are available for diesel engines used by DAF, ERF, Ford, Fuso, Holden, Hyundai, Isuzu, Iveco, Jeep, Land-Rover, Kenworth, Mack, MAN, Mazda, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Scania, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo.
